A quality read taken from John 00 Fleming's FB pageToo long to post here soPart 1 - http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=149150518467253Part 2 - http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=150320288350276
was a decent read until he bigged up itunes then he totally lost me since its absolutely shite, i couldn't believe anything he wrote about before or after that haha
yeah that got me n all Loved the bit about people staying to see the resident play last set, rarely see that now!
A lot of that is on the money. Residents make or break a night, especially when the inevitable happens and a guest DJ can't make it...
Really liked that first part. J00F is a legend, and his words should be good advice to many people who are trying to short cut the path to 'stardom' by relying too heavily on cheap tricks and deception. Look at Promise - Tulip was the solid foundation of that club for years, and the people who turned up, turned up week on week cos they knew the residents, and the crowd were great. These days can the same be said? .... I very much doubt it. I'm guilty of it myself (i suppose i have to be cos i don't have a 'local' and i have to travel to events) but how many of us turn up to an event based on the guest bookings, and totally ignore the resident(s) or just for the sake of supporting a night? The Gallery in London has flown under the radar in a rock solid manner for years now cause people know that week in, week out its gonna be good, and not necessarily cos they have DJ-Fake-Productions-they-never-made on. Its a shame the massive/big brands have almost 'spoiled' some of the sub genres of dance music - trance especially.
Ah yes. You were conspicuous by your absence, given that the last time I bumped into you on a night out you rinsed me to fuck
