French ban headscarfs and skullcaps from schools

Muslim girls in France could be barred from wearing headscarves in schools after an expert commission recommended a ban on "conspicuous" religious signs.
The official commission headed by former minister Bernard Stasi is publishing its findings on issues relating to religion and the state.

French President Jacques Chirac will then have to decide whether to follow the commission's recommendation.

The ban would include the Islamic veil and the Jewish skull-cap.

"We cannot accept ostentatious signs of religious proselytism, whatever the religion" - President Jacques Chirac

    _______________

Fucking good move!!!! Why should Christians be banned from showing signs of their faith while other Alien religions do as they please and go about sticking two fingers up at their host countrys main religion.

    Explain.

Schools cant even read the lords pray at assembly now because it offends other faiths.

You cant fly your flag in case it offends a foreigner??!?!

Are we not offended by their religious signs also??? Muslim scriptures state that we should all be killed as non Muslims........... that fucking offends me! Esp in the world we live in today.

it's not about offending other people, it's about not forcing people to accept or partake in your religion. as far as i am aware schools don't say the lords prayer these days as the white christian children have no interest in it, nor their parents, hence no need for it to be part of the school curricullum these days.

    Pike you talk utter shit!

Islam does not state we should all be killed as non muslim!!!!

The word islam comes from the word salaam (meaning peace!), it is a peaceful religion that is often maniuplated and misinterpretted by its followers and in the current anti-islamic climate - massively misunderstood by the west.

The Qur’an clearly states that if anyone kills another person, except in punishment for murder or spreading discord on the earth, it will be as if he has killed the whole of humanity.

far from the fascist bigatory you spread on this board.

As for the headscarves and skull caps I don't need to make any comments its just more examples of the how far to the right the french people are swaying.

Re: Re: Re: French ban headscarfs and skullcaps from schools

"When the sacred months are over, slay the idolaters (non-Muslims) wherever you find them. Arrest them, besiege them, and lie in ambush everywhere for them. If they repent (convert) and take to prayer and render the alms levy, allow them to go their way. God is forgiving and merciful."

    and

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends. They are friends with one another. Whoever of you seeks their friendship shall become one of their number. God does not guide the wrongdoers."

BUT THEN I CAN GIVE YOU SIMILAR QUOTES FROM THE BIBLE!!!

"And God said - Those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them - bring them here and kill them in front of me. "

"God is a man of war "

"Blessed are the dead who die in God, for they shall have rest in their labors. "

Both however are peaceful religions, it is only misinterpretations and quotings out of context that lead to extremist splinter groups.

    Political correctness gone mad.

What was it i heard.... something along the lines of Tessa Jowells (sp?) banning, or not allowing the word "Christmas" to be said somewhere... Instead its "Seasons Greetings" so as not to offend other religions.

No, im sorry - FUCK other religions, its christmas for christs sake (great pun there :)) - as much as christmas turns my stomach, its a christian event - dont call it anything else.

And yes that works both ways... I wouldnt disrespect the Jewish or Hindu's for "renaming" their festivals either... i cant believe some of the tripe that gets churned out of the spin machine.

that is already the case in the U.S. over there it is generally accepted that you say "Happy Holidays" as opposed to "Merry Christmas."

What's the point in this? Seems to me, every week someone starts a post with a controversial piece of current affairs. It then just follows the same blueprint. Some of you are inherently racist and/or ignorant, others are more liberal and/or open-minded, you won't change each other. What's the point in regurgitating what is basically the same thread week in, week out?!

I know and its starting to creep into a few shops here (mainly American ones like the Disney Shop) with signs like "Holiday Season Specials". It makes me sick, this at the end of the day is a Christian country so we should be proud of that and not try to mollycodle other people. At the end of the day we do have these holidays because of x-mas.
