    Going clubbing

Read this quote on Gurn in a thread about giving up clubbing etc and it got me thinking.

"If you have a genuine love for the music and the scene, you never grow out of it."

Do you think this is true? Or just wishful thinking?

If you have a genuine love for the music, then i doubt you'll ever grow out of it but if you're just there for the scene then its going to wear off eventually.

    True,

How many people over the age of 30 do you see in a 'genuine' club... they exist but they are a tiny minority compared to the 16 - 25 age group imo... therefore I think people do grow out of clubbing for various reasons... :)

One of my pals is 32 and he comes out clubbing everytime we go out, he's not bang into the music or the scene but he used to be and still appreciates it and enjoys getting away from the missus and kid to get smashed now and again.

The thing is that only a tiny minority of the 16-25 group are into clubbing in the first place. Most of the people I know prefer to go to baja's or the like and listen to the same old shite week in, week out.

Thats cool, but he is a minority... my brothers still like the music they used to listen too, but they don't go out to specifically listen to that music... I can see people getting bored of the drugs and clubs, but I think generally the music will still mean something to most people. :)

if you love it you'll never grow tired of it, but the places you listen to it will change ie not in clubs anymore as you get older...

I like dance music, in it's various forms, but have never really bought any. I'm much more into metal (in it's many many forms), industrial, world music, folk stuff (Nick Drake - ) and so on. When I was younger I tried to find the ultimate hardest music possible, and got into Mortician, Anal C*nt, Sadistik Exekution, Nightstick, Nasum and so on on the metal side of things, and Speedcore/Gabba (Noizefucker, The Destroyer, Delta 9) on the 'dance' side of things (there's nowt better than Speedcore to get one moshing :) ) I grew out of this after a while but still have a listen every now and again. I'm listening to The Cure right now, and then probably Talking Heads. Therefore, I don't think I will grow out of the scene as quickly as I would, if, I say, concentrated my finances and energy into just Hard House or just Trance etc. Hopefully I have many years left in me :)

Some of the lyrics are beyond sick. I will not dare repeat  One that always cracked me up though was from "Forty reasons to hate you". The song title is Steroids Guy, and the lyrics go:

"His mustache is big - but his muscles are bigger,
His mustache is big - but his penis is smaller"

    Lyrical genius!

Or how about the lyrics to Furnace:

"Your cousins name is Furnace, he's a fucking dwarf,
Your cousins name is Furnace, he's a fucking dwarf."

I think Batfink summed it up - you still listen to the music, just not necessarily in clubs, unless it is a DJ you really want to see, or a special occasion.

I dislike the 'scene' and a lot of the people connected with it but I love going out clubbing. It certainly becomes less important.

i've virtually stopped clubbing at 21, the last time i went to a club would be around october and i could probably count the times i went clubbing in 2003 on just my hands. i wouldn't say i've grown out of clubbing though, more just grown into other interests coupled with a pretty hefty work & study load. ;)

    agreed:up:

ur less likely to listen to it in clubs as at the moment one of the inevitable reasons people go clubbing IS the scene and the scene will change as we all get old....making older generations less welcome.

i wont stop listening to the music i like when im a granny....but i doubt that i'll still be dancing about in a club!

The ones who will give up early are the ones who joined "da scene" for anything other than the love of the music ... the ones who join it for the social, booze or chemical aspects of it are the ones who i would imagine would get bored eventually and move on.

i would like to say there's a few people around the 30 year mark still going clubbing, me for instance, Vandenburg, Lazman to name a few. Spence is crackin on a bit. Kids nowadays think they know it all. " i was grown out of it by the time i was 20-whatever blah blah blah." if u were in it for the love of the music, you'd always love it and be able to come 'back' to it at anytime. There's some sad people around if they're in it for 'the scene'. i can honestly see myself embarassing my grandkids at family discos in the year 2041 and the DJ says "now here's a track from the 20th century - Robert Miles and 'Children' ... i'll be on that dance floor, throwing shapes like a gerriatric (sp?) possesed.

Maybe be your clubbing tastes change, the music u love shouldn't.
