U actually hit the nail on the head there joe, it is simply a scapegoat. However if that scapegoat wasnt there to guide the shortsighted religious fanatics then these wars may not have a fuel to fire them.

i just think that, for what it is, religion does more harm than good.

I think when looking at major conflicts and events through history such as the crusades and the spanish inquisition then religion does have a lot to answer for... or the instigators/leaders using it anyhow...

However, look at all the religious based agencies working publicy and also behind the scenes to champion worthy causes and help disadvanteged people all around the world, I dont think they get the credit they deserve in arguments like this.

Most religions, practiced in their pure forms should be respected, whether people believe the rhetoric and teachings or not.

People would just find something else to fight about / point the finger of blame at.

But why do we need religion to have charities that help disadvantaged people? Its as if these people wouldnt think that being a good samaritan was right unless it was written in the bible!!
These people that need religion to live their lives are quite sad imo, but if it helps them and makes them happier in life....great. its when its used for conflict that pisses me off. so what if someone follows a different religion, believes in a different god, its their belief and they're entitled to it. its like an opinion coz at the end of the day, the only time u'll find out if ya beliefs are right or not is when ya dead. i'll worry bout it then

We dont need religion to be charitable... but how many people really are? A good proportion of charitable people do it with religious intentions. Religion is a major factor here and that is not a bad thing. If more christians were "good samaritans" would that be negative? I dont see how.

When religion turns into fanatacism and fundamentalism, that is when problems start... not all fundamentalists are wacko's or terrorists, but some are and it can be a dangerous way to go, especially if you defy others for their beliefs. People who live and let live have the right idea. Anyone who can live a good life according to a religion has my respect, I couldnt do it.
