Hifi north festival cancelled???

hope this isnt true!!!

a mate of mine knows someone who works for matfen hall and she reckons that its all cancelled cos they havent been granted the planning permission for the festival,

im not sure how reliable the source of info is but i hope this is all bollocks!!! love parade all over again!

anyone know any more abouth this?

nothing on the website suggests its cancelled like!

there are rumours that its on the cards, it maybe just be speculation though.

I was at Matfen Hall earlier for lunch

It's still on (at the moment) - Just spoke to one of me mates, who works at Matfen, and he's said that they will hear on the 3rd April if the licence has been granted or not.

Basically, it's currently in the hands of Morpeth's Council Office.

I'll let you's know if I hear any more crack....

You could be right. The last time he was at work was Friday because he's away to London for a week.

this weeks hexham corant news paper said they will not know til at the latest 16th may...and at that point they will already be 'on site' setting up

I'd think the delay in the licence is pretty likely to be down to delays caused by the change in licencing procedure for festivals under the new licencing law.

We're currently sorting out the licence for the green festival, and still haven't been able to get a full explanation of how the new process is meant to work from the council licencing departement, because in their words 'we don't know ourselves yet'.

Nowt to worry about unless they get a lot of objections from locals, or the police get their knickers in a twist.

locals have had a reet moan on about it saying it will draw in crime and rubbish etc i think............ id write what the hexham courant said but cant be arsed

The festival is definately ON. Ive heard this from the orgnaiser herself

Just because the organiser has told you it will be happening, doesn't mean it will be for sure.

If the licence is still pending it obviously isn't a definite, until that's granted it can't go ahead - which is a fact.

The organisers obviously have to say it's on, and they have to behave as it it were, otherwise they wouldn't have the time to organise everything properly. It would also adversely affect ticket sales if people didn't know if it was on, in that they migh plan to go to another festival instead.

She was telling me - nothing to do with me being a punter or tickets sales, etc - it's do with licensing and people working at the festival.

Aye, but I'm sure she'll be aware that you will be talking to punters - as you have now

I'm not saying it to be cynical, I'm just saying there's no way that anyone can be 100% sure that it's happening until the licence is granted, especially when there's a fair bit of opposition to it.

WITH time running out, the Angel Music Group is sailing close to the wind in its bid to get a licence to hold the HiFi music festival.

The bands have been booked and tickets are being sold over the Internet for the 25,000 strong rock and dance festival scheduled for May 27.

And a construction team is due to move on to the Wallhouses site, on the Military Road, on May 15 to build the five arenas planned.

The only thing Angel hasn’t got sewn up is permission to hold the event in the first place.

Its initial application will be heard by Castle Morpeth Borough Council’s licensing committee on April 25, but the expectation is that the matter will probably go to appeal.

With so much time and money invested in HiFi, it is inconceivable that Angel Music would give up if it didn’t get permission first time round.

And with a massed rank of objectors – including Tynedale Council, Corbridge, Bywell and Heddon parish councils, and residents in Matfen and Wallhouses – one or more are expected to appeal if Angel does get permission.

The appeal would be heard at Tynedale Magistrates’ Court.

Court manager Mike Cumberland said no provisional date had been set for an appeal,but added: “It is anticipated that the losing side will give notice of appeal on April 25.”

The appeal date would take place some time in early May, depending when a slot could be found in the busy court diary......
