Ever fancied a year of partying in the most spectacular locations across the globe? Lee Burridge did. He spoke to Simon Armstrong as his travels bring him to Newcastle next week.

Hong Kong, Sydney, Rome and New York - not a bad list of holiday destinations in anyone's book.

And, as part of his imaginatively titled 365 project, DJ Lee Burridge has visited them all - and more - in the last 12 months.

Armed with his favourite records, a suitcase full of clothes and a few cans of deodorant, the Londoner has clocked up the Air Miles on his adventures around the world's most exciting clubs.

While basing himself in each place for up to two months at a time, he enlisted the help of local producers to create his own dancefloor-destroying tracks.

And with so many completed, he's now preparing to launch a new label, called Almost Anonymous, to release them. After so much partying it sounds as if this might be where the hard work starts.

"I hope not," he laughs. "I'm basically a lazy person so there will definitely be a middle man involved to organise it, there always is."

It won't be his first foray into label management having previously been involved in running Fire Recordings with pals and fellow DJs/producers, Cass and Slide.

However, as Lee is quick to admit, it wasn't an ideal scenario. "I realised early on it wasn't where I was at musically. I like my sound to be a bit more twisted so that's why I left them to it."

But although a digital revolution is currently sweeping through much of dance music, Burridge remains fiercely loyal to vinyl.

"The easiest route would be to let the tracks be downloaded from places like Beatport and Juno on the internet because there are no overheads, and it allows people in places like Peru or wherever to pick up the music instantly.

"The days are long gone when top DJs could have tracks to themselves and everyone else would spend a year trying to get hold of a copy.

"It's a fact of life and it means you just have to try harder to find your own style and records other people don't have."

Lee recently played back-to- back in Denver with Sasha - who is one of the biggest names to have ditched 12in records and embraced new technology, but Lee won't be following his lead any time soon.

"He's definitely got to grips with the whole digital thing. Then you have got Richie Hawton who is really pushing the boundaries in the way he breaks tracks down and reinvents them. It's mindblowing, but it's just not for me.

"Sometimes I just think `let the record be played the way it was made by the producer'.

"My sets are still almost exclusively from vinyl and I can see a point coming where there's a backlash against digital, plus the sound quality is better in a club."

And he doesn't subscribe to the idea that CDs are easier to carry when jet-setting across the globe, pointing out: "Record bags have wheels, you know."

"They are not that heavy and you can always put them in the back of a taxi. It's not like your hiking up a hill with them. You might get charged for excess baggage at the airport but DJs easily earn enough to cover that!"
