Death Proof Just watched this last nite on filmflex - it had both Tarantino's newest films which for some reason I havnt seen yet. I chose Death Proof and after about 5 mins I thought arrrr no I've chosen the wrong one, standard horror, about 20 mins later I kickd myself for doubting - Quentin completely smashed expectations with his unique style and pure cinematic attitude, the smile on my face by the end was huge, pure woman power. Quaaaality. Sorry if theres already been a thread about this but I loved it that much. Anyone seen the other one? My mate went 2 see them both in America when they came out, they had them like on the same feature - it's a shame they chopped them up over here but not suprising.
yeah, they're called 'grindhouse' - 1 by tarantino and 1 by rodriguez - i'm sure there were some short trailers too, all done in that style. there's loads of directors 'nods' in there too to other films, the scar on kurt russels eye is the same eye as he has a patch on in the 'escape from..' films where he plays snake, the cars used are the same cars as used in bullet, etc not seen the 2nd 1 yet by rodriguez
I've been reluctant to watch it because it doesn't look very good. I'll give it a shot tho. Seen as you rate it.
I thought it was class, the stories wank like but i was supposed to be, the direction and cinematograph was mint though
Awesome film, Tarantino just oozes quality. Theres a nod to "Big Kahuna Burger" from Pulp Fiction in there aswell.
Agreed! Seen both. DeathProof is awesome.. Planet Terror is a fucking laugh like.. brilliant! Love the night shot with "el" Ray on the mini bike
Been lucky enough to catch the Grindhouse double bill on the big screen, and also the 2 films seperately. The films are actually shorter cuts when in the double bill (the black and white missing reel section from Death Proof isn't in the Grindhouse cut) but to be honest I prefer the longer cut of Death Proof, especially said missing reel (espacially the moment when Stuntman Mike brushes past Rosario Dawson's foot). Loads of people I know (even people who love their films) hated Death Proof, citing the fact "there's too much dialogue" and "the annoyingly over-written women". But I personally feel that the first half of the film is supposed to lure you into a false sense of security, the almost endless dialogue almost lulling you into a trance, so Tarantino can pull the rug from under you and completely kick the fucking shit out of you with the second half of the film.
