DJ fees Read in the paper today that John Digweed demands £30k to play a set. Fatboy Slim gets between 25-30k and Paul Oakenfold's about the same. My question is 'do you think that they're asking for too much?' Personally I can't see any DJ being worth 30k for one night. Seems a lot of money to me.
i dont think thats what clubs pay, i think that what they ask for festivals and new year and stuff. But its far too much for doing anything set anywhere
the problem is though there are loads of people who will only go clubbin if a well known dj is playing... SteveImac: didnt u say that only the top ten djs were djing for passion over money, and the rest were there for money?? No way...
John Digweed is worth 30k as well!!!!!! Although i know for certain that isn't what he gets paid per set
i bet matt H dont charge anymore than bout £3K to play a set (mite b rong tho) and he's as good as any big name dj.
I might be wrong but I really don't think that djs are getting half as much as some of you guys are suggesting. Most djs get about 600 - 4000 for a set. I think that the average payout is about 1400. Nice work if you can get it
I know that a couple of years ago Carl Cox was gettin 7000 for a 2 hour set or something but 30,000 is a bit over the top
If ya think about Promise for example, capacity 1350, and say they fill it at £17 a head (which is i think the most they have ever charged), then they would take *searches desperately for a calculator* ............. *got it* nearly £23000 at the door. So lookin at that and thinkin they have to pay for plenty of other outgoings and still make a profit then that figures goin to come down some. So there is no way they could afford to pay for a £30000 dj to play a set. On a normal night they would take a lot less than that. Last night was probs about half full @ £10 each so they could only have taken about £7000. Nowhere near £30000 really. I dont actually know the figures or how much other stuff they have to pay for such as the venue, staff, lighting, etc. Im just speculating really to give an idea to show that djs are pricing themselves out of the market if they are charging that.
dont forget bout the £££ they make off the drink. that prob has a bit of a handy income too. and the sweet shop (if its still there )
