I archived it after MoS and I upgraded the board back in 2009. Rob put it there because there used to be a 200 message limit on inboxes and people were constantly posting threads asking others to clear out their inbox. When we upgraded, I changed the limit to 5000 messages, and when I upgraded the site to Xenforo at the start of the year, it did away with the limit altogether. After that I didn't see the point in keeping it open when you can write on someone's wall (click on their profile) or you can tag them in a post (eg @MELT ) to draw their attention to something.
