Yeah the most recognised codecs for avi files are xvid and divx this is what most standalone players support, I get a fair few that wont play on my ps3 or dvd player

are they films about 700mb? they'll be like Lee said, they'll be divx/xvid codec. you'll need a compatible DVD player to just put 3 or 4 films or 15 episodes of '24' for example on a Data DVD - if it's a normal DVD player, use ConvertXtoDVD to convert to a DVD format file system (and burn for you)

if you have another working xbox 360 u can play divx / xvid / avi's thru that no probs , u will need to let it update the dashboard and install the codecs if u havent already tho !!

It dosent yet play mkv files tho ( hd rips )

u need to connect to live ( even just on silver ) and try and play the avi file by going to the video bit and selecting the avi from the cd/dvd , it should then ask you if you want to download the codec package so click yes and let it install !!

why do you think my avi's are larger than 700? they are like 100 to 1300

doesn't matter. when u compress the movie you can specify what sort of size you want it
