Getting Back Deleted Files I deleted a word doc ages ago but now ive lost the disc and hard copy so i need to try and save the deleted file. It not in the recycle bin anymore. Is there any way i can try and get it back from the depths of my hard drive?
there's a few undelete style apps on download.com but you'll have to search for one thats free/or can recover more than a meg. Good luck... if it's old it may have been overwritten by newer data by now....
www.recovermyfiles.com is the only thing I can think of off the top of my head - the same thing happened to me and someone gave me a list of decent software for file recovery but the forum the list is on is currently down.. Though, as pointed out, it could well have been written over.
You'd be better off stopping using that hard drive straight away and whacking it in someone else's pc for them to scan for the files. I'm sure any Norton program comes with a recovery utility for the recycle bin which scans unused parts of your HD and searches for keywords, but the txt files are not too useful as you have to remove all the crap in 'em too.
