Child tax credits take the piss - makes families/single parents who have a low income/don't work a lot better off than a lot of those that do work without kids - no wonder some people just can't stop popping

At least their benefits are keeping scabby knock-off-nigel landlords like yourself in business eh?

Don't complain about it too much pike, if it wasn't for the money they get from the state you'd be far worse off in terms of rent...

Still, wait till the new LHA Housing Benefit rules kick in, the easy ride for you is over ;)

Immigrants to this country (whether they are from the EU or not) cannot claim benefits for at least 12 months. They are expected to support themselves, and their passports are stamped "No recourse to public funds". See this.

The only group entitled to benefits immediately are those who claim asylum/refugees, who are a much smaller number.

I used to house asylum seekers last year, and they get on average around £35 per week (a large proportion receive that in the form of superstore vouchers), and they are expected to buy food and toiletries from that, because everything else they need is free, such as rent, utilities, college, gym, etc. A lot worked illegally though packing chickens and working in takeaways, etc.

I remember inspecting houses, and often the case would be that heating would be on full whack, with all the windows left open. I would also notice that electricity would be left on (TV's, lights) when the property was empty at certain points in the day. This is not their fault, but because the Government can not agree on a subsidary amount to cover utility bills, and that health and safety would be breached if a family spent their utility income on something else, and then allowed their children for example, to be without heating/hot water/electricity. They receive no energy waste management information, so 'going green' is thrown out of the window here.
