did you know that American therapists, especially those seeing couples whose marriage was failing, used to administered the drug to help couples be more willing to see the other person's point of view. Some therapists in Switzerland still prescribe the drug in this way

MDMA was patented in 1913 (patent #274.350) by the German chemical company Merck supposedly to be sold as a diet pill (the patent does not mention any intended use), the company decided against marketing the drug and had nothing more to do with it. Another urban legend has the US army testing MDMA in 1953 as a possible truth serum, but there is no real evidence supporting this.

In 1985, MDMA/Ecstasy received massive media attention when a group of people sued the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to try to prevent them from outlawing the drug by placing it on Schedule 1. The US Congress had passed a new law allowing the DEA to put an emergency ban on any drug that it thought might be a danger to the public. On July 1st 1985, this right was used for the first time to ban MDMA.

    Observer mag

Did anyone else get the Observer yesterday? It has a big drugs magazine with it and it's v. interesting. Loads of stuff in it that I never knew about and certainly opens your mind more to what's going on

    Re: Observer mag

Was it factual or just media hype?!?!?! I'm assuming, with it coming from the Observer, that is was mainly true!!!

It certainly gives the impression to me that it's factual and if it is media hype it doesn't go too out of its way to be so. Its basic question is asking why Britain seems to be accepting drugs more and more.

it was complete tripe... it was tabloid hysteria aimed at middle aged middle class anti-drug muppets...

if you want to read factual unbiased drug info I suggest you look at www.erowid.org - the observer suppliment was laughable.

It wasn't really anti-drugs I didn't think. Maybe I don't know enough about what's really going on which is quite worrying. Some of the articles I've read have just talked bollocks tho - like in the Times about 3 months ago where they said that the average price for a pill in a club was between £15 and £20! What particular points didn't u like Smart E? It'd be interesting to know what your views are.

First off the whole thing was written like a tabloid, from the glamourous stories of west ends vilains smuggling cocaine in luxury yachts - to the body language to street scoring  It was a peice of trash from start to finish.

It is common knowledge that leah betts had tried drugs before... yet the observer couldn't get that right - 7 years later!

Or how about the interesting fact telling us that now you can get coloured pills it makes them less pure?!!?!?

The review on 2c-t7 was terrible - no mentioning of the deaths on it (I think)

The knowledge section was laughable - it was accurate but so vague and missed out loads, like there was no mentioning of the strong pyschological addictions crack can cause... Mixmag done this same thing a few months ago but soooo much better.

I did find the readers polls funny though - other peoples stupidity is always amusing :D
