Ideas for a North East ONLINE Radio Station

This will be dedicated to club culture, DJ culture and dance music obviously.

Im working out ideas for this at the moment and will be stepping it up with the authorities, promoters, clubnight in and around the north east.

Now i need some feedback from all the clubbers of the area and what they think.

Can you please maybe post some ideas that could make the station different, successful and unique.
Also some feedback and thoughts on this idea would be helpful to help back this idea up even if it is negative. I would love some constructive ideas though.
    such as:

When and which nights would be the best times to operate the station?

what unique ideas for the station would attract clubbers to tune in and log on?

bare in mind, the streamed radio webcast will be of high quality even on a 56k modem - i have contacts!!! ;)

ideas to make it uniqe........oooooooooo thats a hard one, there aint a lot that aint been done b4 (or is there) i think that the obvious one would b being able to c the dj's while they are playin!!!!!!! iv only found a few sites that do this, but i know that there is loads out there that do.

i think that the best time for any major online dj'ing would hav to be from 6pm-9pm(warm up b4 every one goes out) and 3am-7/8am(the 'after party') friday an saterday.

i think live links to some of the best clubs round the north-east during club nites would be a gud idea to, for the unluky souls that cant make it out. or is this idea pushin it a bit to far?

intervews, recorded not writen' ov dj's playin at local nites would grab my atention, i fukkin h8 sittin there readin intervews, i get bored half way thru!!!!!!

there ya go, thats all i can think ov at the mo.........but i bet u already thought ov them!!!!!!!

Yeah I like listenin to good interviews with Djs and whatever cause reading them does get a bit boring

Theres nothing amazing I can think of really that would make ur station amazingly individual. Maybe getting mixes from unknown loacal Djs would be a good idea. I know theres plenty on here :D

the webcam idea would be like a one off special each week or something...

But is there anything that would attract you to log on and listen thats really difference from other radio stations etc..

    need a really good USP!

that stormlive.com used to have streamind sound and video, and ran pretty well on even my poxy 56K... one thing i think it would be worth looking into tho - ive heard a lot recently about some kind of new tax or something that they are trying to slap on internet radio stations - i dont know if this would apply to ya's, but ill look into it 4 ya's.

    club listings!

i reckon you should have a funky house show on on a sunday night, bit like dave pearce's show on a sunday but not as shit. and not banging out lasgo!

a good, laid back kinda show for a sunday night would be a good idea i reckon.

also, you should have a weekly news slot just rounding up what's bin going down in the world of dance.

    ;)

As well as that - it could be troublesome trying to get live feeds from clubs - as a lot of dj's dont want their live sets recorded...

Im sure there'll be a way around it tho.

ppl like jules, kelly, tiesto, PvD will all be signed to labels so even if they wanted it recorded i think they would be breaking their contracts.

yeah i think the problem lyes in the laws, cos licenses are hard to get a hold of. There is one major problem with one licence which is the PPL i think it is where we must have permission from each record company to play each individual tune etc... which is a pain in the arse, so it maye have to be slightly pirate!! hehe ;)

makes it more fun i would say.
will just have to research and see. but there are some good ideas here to add to the ones we have.

i will let you all know the developments etc as they arise.
    anymore ideas would be appreciated.

also thinkin of a name for the station - already got:

    Naughty Up North

-- must have a free URL too!! so check the name first.

how about a request type show, wot would hapen is that people would submit a request for a record and the dj (if the record is availible) would hav to u play it!!!!!? (wether they liked that record or not!!)

I like the sound of that - really keep the dj on his toes - of course i think it would have to be out of a selection of tunes - cos if they could just pick any tune - than it might not be possible to mix em... might just not go together at all, but geting to choose from a selection would still make it exciting, cos the dj wouldnt have much time to prepare...

    :D

yeah actually you will need a PRS Public Performance Licence.
There are usually 2 types: a pub/club one which you pay a set fee per year and can play anything you want, or a playlist one (used mainly by TV & Radio) which defines specifically which tunes have been played and when. As far as internet stations go, I dont know which one you will require, I guess if its a small operation then they will let you have the fixed-fee all-inclusive one.
