    Mixing or Choon Selection??

Right......Its finally time to settle this long standing debate.

What is most important, Mixing or Tune Selection???

For me its got to be tune selection by far. I couldnt give a shit if a set that contained loads of tunes that entertained me had a few suspect mixes, I hardly notice anyway!! :D :D

Obviously tune selection if you have to choose one or the other.
But seriously if a big name DJ played all the songs you like and didn't even try and mix them just whacked them on in any old fashion would you still not care?
What then would justify their superstardom and healthy pay packets from your nobodiness?
Granted you need the right tunage but you also need good skills. Or superb skills to stand out from the rest.
Therefore to conclude you cant have one or the other you need skills on all fronts to make it big but also personality to be noticed. PLUR :D :D :chill:

    Good point :D

But I would rather have average mixing and outstanding tune selection than outstanding mixing and average tune selection

    hmmmmmmmmm, its both, plus more.........

djing isnt just tune selection and/or mixing........ its those elements plus a hell of a lot more!!!

    crowd interaction,
    reading crowd,
    creating an atmosphere,
    working the crowd,

and a whole lot more when tune selection is involved.

so im voting neither unless you add everything else...

    under : ENTERTAINMENT!!! - its a DJ's JOB!!

    *sticks neck out on block*
mixing is very over-rated i think.. although it is important. take the likes of *insert prog house dj here*, alot of them are technically superb (ie lee burrdge) but the tunes they play, FOR ME, arent very exciting, and i'd rather hear some decent although not gr8 mixing with wicked tunes than the supremely tight mixing.

each is as important as the other. i wouldnt expect to pay money to see a dj play class tunes one after the other if he/she spoilt it with poor mixing!

tiz exactly wot we was talkin bowt the other nite... most people wouldnt notice. but a lot of people who go clubbin get into mixin themselves because they love the moozik..... therefore are actually listening out for mixes-and more often than not actually appreciate it a bit more.

    What Fizz said!!!

If a DJ gets the crowd going really well I tend to forget about the music that is playing (weird I know).

    I agree with Fizz.

I am sure there are hundreds of bedroom DJs out there who have the mixing skills of Sasha and the tune selection of *insert your favourite DJ here*, but it takes whole lot more to actually make it as a DJ.

When i go clubbing, I expect Dj's to be able to mix well! This isn't the most important thing however, tune selection is v. important and like Fizz said alot more is involved aswell! But just playing mint tunes and not mixing is simple - anyone could do it!
  21. Guest

ermmmmmmmmm both i would say like to construct a set is just as important as ure mixin u could be a mint mixer and mix tunes like lasago somthing into el viendo that wouldnt be very good.
