Mixing with EQ's Ive been mostly knocking the low frequencies down to about 60% when im practicing on the old CDJ's - stops the mix sounding "boomy" .... Then making a quick switch on the first beat of the bar to swap the basslines around - watched ferry corsten doing this all the time when he was at the gallery... HOWEVER, ive seen alot of dj's who dont use this technique much... Who mixes using the EQ's ? Are you a low frequency guy only... or what? If you dont use em - why not? Help a newbie out
I mix with the EQ's every mix, once you start getting in to things you get to know how to judge tunes and when to do what when. Took me a fair bit of getting used to.
Re: Mixing with EQ's i like doing it like that, clean and crisp - but i like to hear the new line coming in - people like to hear the mixes! well... i do... for my style that i play
if i'm mixing more proggy stuff i use the eqs a lot more, and make the mixes very long and slow, bringing in all the eqs from very low. if i'm playing more 'bangin', then i tend to leave the mid alone, and use low and high quite a lot..unless im on some super a&h mixer anyway! some tunes sound good with a gradual swap of bases, but some some great when you suddenly swap them at the start of a bar - pvd stylee! just depends on which tunes really!so many options!
depemds on the tune. If im playing prog i dont really touch the EQs at all, just use the levels and crossfader a bit. If im playing trance, with rolling basslines, i use the bass eq, and usually quickly swap. i dont do this every time tho, i mix differently all the time. I try not to think about it too much, and just go with the flow dpending on the tunes.
