    3 Q's...............

    1, can any 1 suggest a good prog to do this?

    2, wot diff does it make?

    3, is there any point ?

    Mpg is slightly smaller and generally more widely used than avi, plus with mpg u actually know what format its in. AVI's can be DIVX where u need to download different codecs etc which is a farse.

    Adobe premiere does it, if u cant get hold of that have a look on www.download.com

    Mpegs can be encoded into VCD/SVCD's and played on most home DVD players. You can even retain 5.1 soundtracks in SVCD's.
    TMPGEnc is my software of choice at the mo.
    I've never had much to do with AVI's so I couldn't comment
