    New Licencing Hours!

    The Revolution is here :

    http://uk.news.yahoo.com/050121/325/faqrb.html

it's going to change the way we all drink and plan our nights!!! no more happy hour bullshit at 7pm and no more booted out at 11pm!

But they reckon there's a right 'furore' over these plans - who are these miserable moaning old pensioners who only drink a snmall sherry at christmas? What is it with this country and a little bit of change? the world has to move on - it can't stay as it is....

i for one think this is a crackin idea - it might take a good few years to settle down - but long term changes have to be made!

    Re: New Licencing Hours!

Only if the pubs decide to change their opening hours. Just because they can doesn't mean they will. Apparently no pubs have yet applied for a 24 hour licence, with most opting to close at 2am at the latest. Still a major step forward though!

I would guess that pubs that are owned by the same companies as clubs will probably not open very late, as the companies would rather people were paying to get into the clubs and buying (usually) more expensive drinks.

good point - but atleast it will give a bit of flexability for those who want to change - it'll take a while but it's all good!

alcohol should not be available 24 hours a day!

It WILL encourage binge drinking and roudyness!

it'll just spread it out...some people may drink more - but it'll not force the majority to squeeze in their drinking to a few precious hours - and like b.o.b. said - not everyone will apply immediatley

    you moaning old pensioner.

totally agree with you. Imo there will be less trouble because instead of a mass of drunken louts spilling out at 2am looking for a fight they'll be leaving at different times.

i think its a great idea personally

Pubs being open 24 hours could have a major effect on nightclubs in this country

i'm sure the blair the communist is thinking more about our health and the crimes rates in city centres than how it will effect clubs.

the NEW LABOUR party is just using it as another gimmik like they did at the last election. If the council in newcastle arent up for it or the police for that matter it wont happen.

I imagine the latest a pub will stay open will be 2am unless Dodgy is drinking in there in which case his personal licence will allow us to stay in wherever for forever ...yipeeeeeeee:) :)

The Council don't 'decide' what hours a place can open under the new laws - when a place asks for it's Premises License it can ask for whatever hours it wishes. Only if either the residents of the area or the police make a formal complaint to the council may restrictions be applied, otherwise a bar/pub/club gets what it asks for.

    :lecture: :)
