New Pc thoughts What do the 'nerds' on here think of this ? Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - £67 Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130429 £64.99 GeForce 8800 GT 512MB - £129 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-071-OK&tool=3 Extra Value 550W ATX Silent Neon PSU - £20 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/10299...ffset=10&review_type=both&review_order_by=RUF (is this enough wattage?) can anyone suggest a motherboard/cpu probly got around £250 or so > Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard - £72 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131173/show_product_overview >Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz Socket 775 4MB Cache 1333MHz - £167 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130483/show_product_reviews will this all work together?
drop the ebuyer PSU and get a decent one. It may say 550W, but I seriously doubt it can deliver that across all the voltage rails at once. Most PCs don't need anything above a decent 450W so use that as your starting point
did you have an overall budget in mind? and do you plan to overclock? i'd say to go for a Q6600 or not....FSB is slightly lower at 1066mhz but it has double the cache and it's quad core. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131823 Mobo...i'd reccomended Asus P5K http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129125 - excellent for overclocking, i opted for the next model up - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129126 RAM is good, and that's a surprisingly good price for ebuyer, they are usually shit for RAM. I have the same stuff but I went for the C4 as opposed to C5. PSU, forget about a cheap one, seriously...known system killers. I'd suggest this, especially since you are going for an 8800GT: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114945 Although personally i'd go for a 600w+ ( I got the TX750). yes its considerably more expensive, but it's not worth running such good components on a shit PSU, it's asking for trouble. graphics card ain't bad, perhaps consider spending a little more and going for an overclocked card such as this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-052-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1008 - i have the OC2 version, great card. What about a case?
Re: New Pc thoughts You been monitoring me or something? Just built the following: Antec P182 case Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz GeForce 8800 GT 2GB crucial ram Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R You can get the processor cheaper than that at microdirect.co.uk Phil is right about the PSU, but overclockers says get at least 500 for that graphics card. Hoping my 520W Corsair will do the trick, all the wires are detachable and I've got them running round the back of the case out the way of the airflow.
Re: Re: New Pc thoughts A closet geek rossy! All this time and I didn't know. That PSU should be fine to be honest, Corsair ones are really good quality. Chances are my 720w is a bit overkill but it's always good for future expansion and future builds. canny pc by the way! i have a p182 too, good case.
Re: Re: Re: New Pc thoughts I can honestly say that this time last week I didn't know what dual core meant. However, due to a combination of tomshardwareguide, wikipedia and overclockers.co.uk I'm now all clued up and have a good pc untill the next stuff comes out.
Am gonna be getting a new one soon. Anyone recommend any from anywhere, i was gonna upgrade mine but for what you pay now i will just buy outright. I will want it about 2/3GB Ram for the speed basically and cos the one i have now is slowing down cos of music i will probs buy an external hard drive to stop that. Cheers
budget? exernal HDD shouldn't make any difference, just defragment from time to time and get a decent size HDD...ie 500GB+
About 3/400? I was gonna even buy now pay later on one cos its what i did last time, the one i have now is 250 GB HD and thats about all i know tho when i first got it it was the shit, i have hammered it with music tho and only last year got it cleaned up which i dont wanna do again. Even if u find some online where i could buy now n pay later or whatever really? Cheers
ah i assume you are wanting pre-built then? Dell have some canny deals like: http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspndt_531?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs
This whole PSU business is a trick! You need to fully understand how it works in relation to having enough power to run a high end graphics card and whatever else there is. I don't understand though so maybe someone else will tell you. The reason I say this is because my Dell PC has a 375W psu and runs the 8800GT fine whilst I play Crysis with graphics on very high. :spangled: Does anyone still play the original Unreal Tournament? I'll give you a game if so Also another note.. if you're gonna be playing some FPS games and you can see yourself getting pretty addicted to one in particular, make sure you have a good mouse. I first started playing UT with a decent Logitech mouse and although I didn't realise it at the time, it makes it a lot easier to aim because now that I'm using a standard Dell one, I can't seem to hit anything. *Oh and an extra not - I couldn't be any happier with my Dell XPS 420. It's a very complete and functional package and it's given me way less trouble than my custom built system did.
I think I'm gonna go for the Logitech MX518. I think it beat the G5 in reviews.. and it's a bit cheaper
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Pc thoughts if u download it (for nowt) off a torrent , can u play it online (for nowt)? i'm really cheap.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Pc thoughts ManOf - my god, that game must cost a fiver now UT3 is where its at like! Total carnage.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: New Pc thoughts Yeah. I bought the original, lost it, bought the GOTY edition then lost that in amongst my hoards of cd's so whenever I need to reinstall i just download it again. Also, I think it's way better than UT3 (at least from a fan or the original's perspective). I personally only play Zeroping Instagib as I prefer simple clean cut shooting without annoying 12 year olds spamming rockets all over the shop
