    Self Harm

There was a big thing about this on TV today, it is something I have never understood & worryingly it seems nor do doctors & nurses.

A 170,000 people a year attend hospital after deliberately harming

It is estimated that 80,000 of those who attend casualty each year because they have self-harmed never receive a psychological assessment or follow-up.

This is despite the fact the risk of committing suicide after self-harming one or more times is 100 times greater than the average risk in the population

Self-harm and suicide have become the third leading cause for life years lost after cancer and heart disease in all age groups:eek:

    Girls 'more likely to self-harm'

Four times as many girls than boys end up in A&E after trying to harm themselves, a study suggests.

you cant undersand it without being there, and evn those who haev been there rarely understand why others do it.

and as to the pyscological assesments...even after suicide attempts, you dont nessercerily get them, i dont understand this.

Double edged sword tho. She helped raise awareness too.

Ur right though. More people need to be more open minded about it.

It isn't easy for them, but it isnt easy for the victim either.

Re: Re: Girls 'more likely to self-harm'

She did raise awareness aswell like.

The victim should always be the priority but an understanding of self harm needs to be in place for this to really happen

I like to think I can understand most things/people & Ive read a lot about this but still do not see the point of self harm apart from what Heather says.

Its weird but i think its because the person usually is trying to punish themselfs for something.

Neither do I and I've done it. I can't even find the right words to explain it really.
