our resident geek (revel) is at work and we have no ideas about computers...so when it asks for things like primary and secondary DNS numbers what am i supposed to do?:(

whats asking for this? your router should be DHCP - in which case it will do it automatically. if it's the machines - don't worry - leave them blank.

    Kind of true I s'pose..

The home user dont need to worry too much about security from outside hacks, its possible but very unlikely!

And if business dont have tight enuff security on their wireless networks, MAC authentication blaa blaa...then they deserve all they get! :p

The problem for home users is interfearance (sp?!?) yeah, its very very very frustrating!

I think next doors hearing aid used to mess with mine

    Stick with the wires :D

even for home users a standard wired network is best option.

agree with ya its only gud for say airports, trains, cafes etc where ppl want a quick hop on the net etc....

its too frustrating to be relied on for anything else! constant signal drops and slow downs

good idea, but not very practicle.

    tis a shame

we got wireless installed "professionally" on our computers which still didnt work properly despite using pci and usb nodes. the internet strength varied from 100k/s down to like 3, even on my primary computer where the signal had to travel all of 6 inches from the router to the node. took it back told em it was guff and it didnt work as they had promised, still in dispute now :(

now just with the pipex usb modem i get full 120k/s, a full 20k faster than the wireless

my mate installed it in his house, when he used the microwave the internet went off

cables ain't what the kids want... they wanna sit in the front room, watch telly, surf the board and look good in their von dutch sideways caps... innit.

20mtrs of cable would be so much better. if boring.

i think this topic is one of those that keeps cropping up like "how do i record my mixes?" or "i've got these anoying pop ups!" :D

we knew cables were the better option but we live in a massive house...my room is on the third floor, so we would need alot of wires to connect all 5 rooms!
