    The Church versus Homosexual Adoption

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6293115.stm

So, who's 'human rights' take precedent and why? The rights of the religious to 'follow their consience' or the rights of homosexual people not to be discriminated against?

It's basically saying that if you're religious, you are allowed to be homophobic, when others aren't.

Our country is being governed by superstition and bronze age mythology, and it's being used to justify human rights abuses 3000 years on.

    It's utterly absurd.

Shami Chakrabati's doing a Q&A session at Worldies in a week or 2, might pop down and ask her what she thinks.

Absolutely. And there is plenty of evidence to show that children brought up with gay parents fare no better or worse than anyone else.

When they were protesting about something not too dissimilar the other week, they were arguing that religious graphic designers should be allowed to refuse to make flyers for gay nights etc.

I wonder if religious paramedics should be allowed to refuse to help gay people as well?

It's almost too ludicrous to warrant sensible debate at all, but our good old PM, his wife, several of his ministers, the archbishop of canterbury and a great many other people with a lot of power of the rest of us have all decided that actually its a good idea.

It would be laughable, if it wasn't quite so worrying.

"Not guilty m'lud. The jury considers that the defendent cannot be guilty of murder as it was due to his religious principles."

Did anyone see that documentary about gay parents a while back? It was a ''wife'' swap but obviously the mincer one out of the queers swapped with the wife instead. The straight couple were bible bashing Christians who hit their kids with belts and lived by strict rules where as the gay couple lived a perfectly normal life. Their adopted kids couldnt be happier and it was actually a bit of an eye opener. Who cares if there gay? If they can provide a happy life to the kids surely this should be more important? Isnt that the whole point of adoption?

I can't really see why some single-mum-on-benefits-slapper is OK to look after a child when 2 professional middle aged lesbian women aren't.

If a child is going to get picked on, it will get picked on for anything that makes it different.

I know a few gay people with kids at school, and the kids don't get any grief for it whatsoever.

Fair point, I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just saying if anyone at my school had 2 blokes as parents he/she would of got abuse.
