    Travelling / Backpacking

Just wondering if anyone has actually done this as a gap year or just for a break and what are the best places to travel to?

I didn't do the full thing, but went to Indonesia for a month with nothing but a backpack and some money. I spent two weeks in Java, and two in Bali, and can fully recommend it (though I'd check on the political situation with the FCO before going).

It all depends what you want to see, and what you're looking for.

You need to think about if you want to see scenery/culture/buildings/temples/people, if you want to learn a new language and what sort of stuff interests you.

Buy a few lonely planet books and see what takes your fancy (these are essential for whichever place you do choose)

I really wish people wouldn't say they "did" a country. You did not do it, you went there/visited/holidayed.

    I've got my route sorted...

Get dropped off in Bangkok, stay in SE Asia for 1 month.
Then Fly to Sydney and stay in Australia for a month.
After that fly to Aukland and spend a month making our way the Chrischurch.
Fly out of Christchurch to Fiji for a week.
Then get a flight to L.A and spend 2 weeks making our way to San Francisco.
Then get a flight to New York, stay there for a few days then fly home.

    Cannot wait!:D
