Wireless network help?? I have just purchased the following: * Linksys WMP54G 54Mbps Wireless-G PCI Adapter * Linksys WRT54G 54Mbps Wireless-G Broadband Router However I am unable to get it working.. I have one desktop PC that I was going to put the Wireless Adapter in and then link the broadband modem (Scientific Atlantica is the manufacturer and the model is Webstar DPX100) to the broadband router and connect using the wireless network. Will this work because I seem to be having problems? I connect an ethernet cable to my modem and into the internet port on the back of the router. but nothing happens. Previous the modem has been connected to my PC via a USB cable.
Ah, you *may* have problems with it since your modem is USB. I assume its the same setup as mine....phone-type cable from the phone line to the modem, then usb from the modem to the pc? In my case, the data is sent to the pc via the USB cable. But if you can actually attach a network cable then you should be able to get it working. Do the link lights come on when the cable is attached?
It goes like this: Telewest TV box - Modem - USB cable into PC The modem only has one ethernet connection and one USB connection, so i can run an ethernet cable from the modem to the router :spangled: Not sure on the lights bit will have to check when I get home!
plug the modem into the router with the network cable. ring telewest to register the MAC address of the router, which is probably on the back. try it then - you have no idea how long it took us to find this out!!
It's nice to see I ain't the only the only one that struggles with this sort of thing! Thanks for the advice I'll give it go when I get home!!!
he doesnt need a hub for what he wants to do here andy_rocks makes a bloody good point! I forgot about that, Telewest insists that u register hardware with them, for security i assume. Try that and see how u get on
spud also needs help... i got all my wireless shit up n running (was fine 2day) but... now it's claiming it can't connect. i get a pop up box saying 'one or more wireless networks are available' click that, and it shows the network. there's a box sayin sumthin about the network not being secure, and the option to 'connect despite the network not being secure' i select that, click ok, it thinks about it for a second, and then the pop up box appears again, having made no fuckin progress at all... :spangled: god damn thing. i am a bit drunk so it may be ok in the morning, but if anyone knows why it would do this, feel free to chip in
i think ive found the issue.. sumthin must be interfering with the signal - someone stood a plant pot in front of my router and that seemed to fuck it up :s ... ive moved the plant pot, and there's a signal now, but it's shit... :spangled: arrgh, what a fuck on...
Thing is when i connect the modem to the router, the router internet comes on, BUT the data light on the modem doesn't (if that makes sense). Where can I get a network card from?
As soon as I plug the router in it knock the internet connection off even though I still have a USB from modem to PC in!
Ok the wireless network card can see the broadband router, so I assume the card is set up ok.... However when I plug an ethernet cable from the router to the modem it knocks my internet connection off (at the momment the internet connection is wired to the PC via USB). I have been going round in circles all morning and I am totally lost. HELP
I took the USB out and put the ethernet in and reset it..... The internet light on the router comes on but I can't do anything online it keeps asking me to dial up!
yeah, you do.... He still hasnt set it all up BTW. He says he pay someone if they go round and do it.
yeh, one of my m8s with telewest said u need to register all the addresses...fook knows tho... i got mine near enough sorted, spent 20 mins before wondering why my singal had disappeared (surely she wouldnt put the plant pot back in front ot the router after i told her what happened last time? ) so i figured it must be something ive done (i have a tendancy to fuck around with things... ) 10 mins later, with no success i go downstairs, n it's behind the fookin sofa... :spangled: sigh... eesh. im tryin to enable WEP on it... goin to it's setup bit (http://10.0.0.2 ) but when i try to enable it the router just locks n i have to go downstairs n reset it... :spangled: ive found some new firmware for it which apparently is a 'vital' upgrade... so im hoping that might sort it's head out... damn things... so much for the wireless revolution i have visions of me having to scream down the stairs 'GET OUT OF THE WAY OF THE ROUTER!' ... :angel3:
