you know more about the problems within the industry than we do mark, i would be interested to know more of the problems that there are in club land at the mo.
Are all promoters feelin that things are goin wrong?
are u all worried at all?

It is a shame that nights are having to close and stuff. I was annoyed when Golden started to go shite, then eventually close, and now crasher goin monthly, it doesnt look too good.

I hope it doesnt reach a super-underground situation, like techno and the like, cos i cant be arsed searchin too hard for a decent trance/prog night...it would be crap not having any choice.

Bringing new DJ's, young DJ's, and supporting the scene from the grass roots as u say is a good idea, but it would bge difficult. Cos Small name DJ's and clubs dont make good busineses do they, as u know.

Things all seem to be goin in funny directions in my opinion. Genres moving around, and being re-defined and stuff. Not that many new DJ's around. Loads or producers starting to DJ (some not very well, in some peoples opinions)

hope everything stays good in the dance world tho...and continues to grow, or start to grow again...or whatever...

there used to be a time i loved a festival but i cant be arsed with it now

i'd rather have a tent in my own garden, invite a load of people round, have a bbq and get merry with sum tunes blasting

but i spose that doesnt help clubland either ;) :D

I agree, the first SSS was soo good, just the right number of people, not too huge and dedicated more towards the music rather than trying to get as many people as possible to come, think Craig David headlining last year??

Some are up to 50,000 this year. That's equivalent to a medium sized town! My best experience was last year at GKGG, which had about 25,000. I reckon 10,000 max would be an ideal number though.

i think the weather played a big part in the first gcsss too...it wouldnt have been such a good atmosphere sitting outside and dancing in the rain

that whole festival was comedy from start to finish tho haha

a couple of mates went to cream on saturday, and got talking to one of the promoters and he was saying exactly the same ... the superclubs are dying .. its places like promise that will keep the club scene going, i had noticed over the last 8 months the scence has gone not so much underground but people definatly going off the big club image. But i think give it 2/3 years and this scene will blow up again, and maybe the super clubs will come back, but there a lot of work before that happens.

Its from the American 'Candy Kids' , instead of just going out and boshing about having fun they gave themselves an 'ethos' for clubbing (or 'raving' as they like to call it).

Peace, Love, Unity, Respect - PLUR

I dont really know that much about the dance music scene, but seems to me that a lot of the problem aint that dance music is fading, more that there's now too many ppl chasing the same market.

Too many superclubs all competing for a share of the same number of clubbers, so they're putting on more and more big nights which cripple the reg night round the country. Plus too many events like NEC, which would have been about a ton for 1 night out, and which are normally pretty shit anyway. A lot of clubbers aint big earners so if they go somewhere like NEC that's probably it for the whole month innit!

And far too many CDs coming out, seems like all summer from about now til Sept there's a new superclub CD released about every 2 or 3 weeks!

And last few years too many festivals for anyone to go to them all. I'd love to do GCSSS, GKGG and Creamfields, but can prolly only manage 2 of them (GCSSS for the Chems and Creamfields for Underworld).

To be honest the best night out I have are always Promise. Red nBlack and GK at the arena were both good but I have a much better time nearly every Promise night, and for a fraction the cost!

I think part the reason that MOS has suffered and GC is declining now is that they've kinda turned into corporates, and just churn out formula! What most clubbers seem to like the most is the underground feel and the "family" feel of places like Promise, lose that and I think the problems start.

Maybe the answer is to reproduce Promise round the country, i.e. smallish clubs, instead of going Super like GC!

couldn't agree with you more on this one Si, the reason why i love foundation is exactally for that 'family' kinda feeling. it makes the night miles better, big nights like NEC and telewest shit DO NOT appeal to me in the slightest.

Long live that 'underground feeling' in my opinion.

    ;) :p ;)
