I'm talking about the implications on the rest of society... being called tight doesn't hurt my feelings!!!

But a soceity that accepts racist jokes as harmless fun is a socciety that accepts and recognises racial enequiality.

    That is my problem.

hang on a fuckin second, i don't in any way think that race or colour has anythin to do with equality (frankly i'm offended by that), i treat everyone the same. but i'm the type of person who may find a joke about jewish people bein tight funny, if its funny. if its simply a derogatory joke i probably wouldn't. but i certainly wouldn't then hold the opinion that jewish people were all tight fisted gits and i certainly wouldn't let it have any bearing on how i treat a jewish person, such as yourself. If sum1 does allow it to affect the way they treat a certain person from a different race then i would say that is a fault of the individual and not a joke he was told by his mate.
(please note i have nothin against any person of any colour, race, nationality or creed, however i do have a sense of fuckin humour)

    END OF RANT.

I put those up cos I thought u might find them offensive!

Jesus christ I'm glad u've always been hammered or loved up when I've bumped into you or I could find myself swinging from a tree! ;) :p

truth is mate, the problem isn't in the name calling, I'd probably be more upset if u mocked my looks ;) Its in what they stand for... one fo the reasons the Nazi party found it so easy to target the jews was because centuries of racial stereotypes (which jokes fuel and reflect) had laid a foundation that made the jewish so called problem very plausable to the masses.

One on one your right there is little harm in a joke, but its the acceptance as normal and the subconcious segregation it causes I feel is dangerous.

i can c where ya comin from but i simply can't believe that a joke can have such an effect on the masses, especially in this day and age. if sum1 wants to cause harm to another because of their race then i would think that they would feel the same way regardless of whether they'd "heard the one bout the queer jew" or not.

and whats with the remark about swinging from a tree. do u really think that i'm that type of person joe? or is it a case of i don't find those jokes offensive, yet u know i'm not racist, therefore ur tryin to label me as a thug or the likes? wats the crack wi that?

You take offence at being labeled a thug, but think I'm being over pc if I take offence to being called a tight bastard?

Does that not strike u as slightly hypocritical? :D

They're just labels what harm could they do :p

I think a great example of racial stereotypes doing massive social damage, is the afro-american stereotype... We can't think of afro-americans without thinking of the ghetto fabulous pimpalicious hoodrat.

This isn't a positive image that helps strive towards racial equality in America, this stereotype fuels fear and paranoia and errects huge barriers ebtween races state side... Many of these stereotypes are fueled by "harmless jokes".

Getting back to england if you think a culture of racist jokes isn't enough to subconciously influence the british public you have far more faith in them than I do, this is a country that can be influenced into anything from fashion accessories too asylum issues, from war to organic vegtables.... WE@RE EASILY INFLUENCED.

The actual jokes themselves wont turn you into a racist, but they lay a foundation which makes racism easier to accept... The vast majority of Germans weren't born raciost - they were as smart as you an I.... But what started as harmless stereotypes rapidly evolved into fear and hatred.

i didn't take any offence whatsoeva, just questioned ur reasons for it when u know i'm nothin like that.

and there's a difference between u labelling me as an individual and sum1 making a joke about a stereotype of ur race. any1 with half a brain would not label u a tight bastard because of the joke, however u implying that i'm the type of person to assault sum1 for such a reason (what was the reason again?) would make any1 who doesn't know me think i'm a crazy psycho. i have enuff trouble wi people thinkin that as it is lol

all the rest of that bollox, well if ur that weak minded to be influenced in such a way then i pity u. times were different then joe, there was no such thing as equality in those days. not even for women. u still hear sexist jokes tho, and not just from men.

Surely you can't be that naive?!?!?!?

Have you read the daily mail recently?

Have you spoke to your mates about asylum issues, these are exactly the same stereotypes as Nazi germany!!! SO DON'T FUCKING PATRONISE ME ABOUT BEING EASILY INFLUENCED!

I'm obviously not putting my point across very clearly, this isn't about you hearing a joke and suddenly thinking "eee by jove he's right paki's do smell of piss"! This is about large proportions of the population considering highly offensive stereotypes as acceptable.

"look jewish joseph is buying the drinks in lads, turn up for the books"

May seem harmless enough to you, but when u look at the social history behind that remark it becomes slightly more dangerous... Jews were murdered by their millions as they were "percieved" to be extremely wealthy an powerful.

Jokes may seem harmless but they're not, people often associate the Irish with being drunk, this is namely down to drunk irish jokes... Jokes are often a reflection of what society thinks: Anne Winterton makesa joke about throwing paki's out of the window - because a large proportion of England think their are too many Pakistani's in england...

Don't under-estimate the damage stereo typing can do... Also don't base your opinions of society on your own characteristics... You could well be far more intelligent/strong minded/etc. than your average joe :D
