At 20 miles each way, averaging 30mpg (which isnt great, most cars will do 40-25) and with fuel at 97p/l, its about £30 a week per car.

This means its about £15 saving per person per week. Considering people on £15k a year are getting about £250 a week after tax its not really too much of an incentive in return for giving up your car....

your saving means the average car user would save around £700, thats a holiday to most people...

but anyway, the incentive is that on the meta scale the roads are clearer, at least until demand can no longer be curtailed and further measures are needed..

I know what you're saying, but if you're prepared to run a car in the first place you may as well put some extra into it and use it to its full potential.

Does anyone know if these car sharing lanes going to be for rush hour only or all the time?

i think trying to reduce congestion and pollution is a good idea, but i'm thinking its not really the best way to do it.

fuck knows, but the extra lane is just gonna get filled with people with only one driver. So people who travel together are soon gonna realise there journey aint gonna get any faster and just travel alone.

It works fine in America, Canada, South America and Europe so I can't see why I won't work here, cameras are used to patrol the lanes so in principle you are also saying people carry on speeding regardless of speed cameras, which as everyone knows, is far from true..
