Re: Define Back In The Day

Most people on here were probably still in junior school (if that) in the mid to late '80s! I know there are a few older ones on here, but not many that got into it that early. I would have thought that most people on here would count "back in the day" as when they first got into clubbing.

Personally I count "back in the day" as around '95 to '98 or so, as that's when I started ("proper") clubbing regularly, though I did go as early as '88.

I too was at school in the late 80's but regardless of when you went clubbing first, my view is that it is a phrase related to when it all started.

i finished school at 16 in '91.... bought too many 'Deep Heat' albums ( " 20 seconds to comply - silver bullet" ) ... but i also say it goes up to kinda '94 time when Radio 1 started making it so much more part of their schedule

RADIO 1 killed dance music is that what you are saying?

I think back in the day kindof ceased when D:REAM started charting and faithless strated crossing over. 93 , 94 they were still hardly heard in chartland then dance music became huge and they all got given radio edits

So dance music has been dead since around '93?

it didn't kill it - it made it main steam which in my opinion is a good thing. i didn't really get into the old 'free-love-free-music' ideology of it - maybe cause i was living on the out skirts to leeds....

if ANYTHING , it brought the scene out into the spotlight - to blow away some of the myths that the middle class thought we were all 'drugged up crazies going off it in a field"

aye good point dance music has been officially dead since 93, then it went handbag

outskirts of leeds , chapel town, woodhouse etc. like west beirut and the gaza strip: doubt they recived any radio transmissions there:wink:

I thought shaun ryder brought it intot the spotlight with that bootful of whatever he pulled up the HACienda in 88

nar, otherside for me - the posh bit  leeds local dance radio station transmitted from chapeltown... "DREAM FM"... proper underground station, kept going off air when they got busted... mobile phone to ring in for 'requests'..... "this is going out to phill of the yeadon posse"

(the posse was me and a bad alba hifi getting the crappiest reception!)

bit like nottingham had rave fm, used to go off the air when busted too.

they had shout outs like "make the date dont be late its gonna be great" and "rave at/for the value of money"

always thougth the mixing was class but if you listen to any old copies of them tapes now its really dicey, cutting it up:lol:
