    petrol duty rises
    council tax rises
    tax rises
    rip off britain

General apathy really (and yes im guilty of it to) - Its funny though but we british are a different bunch of people if you take us out of our own country and into other places. I would say most of us are sick of the grind it takes to just survive and would rather have a more relaxed attitude to life or work harder if we knew it was getting us somewhere

In the states, if you want to embrace hard work and capitalism there is still a sense of 'frontierism' when it comes to this kind of thing - You can raise a family and buy a house in some states for the same money it would cost for a grotty council flat in cruddas park (no offence to cruddas park people) .... its impossible to do the same here, everyone is shrewd and greedy and scared. And people take it as being normal.

On the other side, theres places like Australia, Italy or Spain where people manage to get by in life very well without running themselves mentally into the ground. The culture and identity of some of these places is incredible aswell - I work with a load of people from all over the world as part of my job and the way of life is a running joke between everyone more or less, alot of people come to the UK and are shocked how bad the people, the weather and the food is.

Of all the places ive been in this world, we seem to work the hardest and be the most miserable for the least actual reward.

Of course there is the rose tinted specs aspect to it all but you cany deny certain stats and facts.

Your lucky then, theres not alot of demand in the north for that kind of work - what about the other 250,000 people up there?

Its easy to talk about what it takes to get ahead when youve reached a marginal level of success aswell - other people arent so lucky.

i can't speak for the rest but i'm sorry but the states comment is crap, utter crap and thats coming from someone who's lived and worked there. maybe thats cos i worked for a jewish company tho

the cost of living in america pans out in different ways to here - for example we pay £3k tution fees to go to uni - if at all.. americans pay around $30k per year to go to a decent out of state university...

i work with people from all around the world both customers and staff and they love it here and have a lot of respect for this country... although i have lived with people from various european and asian countries, so i do know what you mean.. and it often boils down to small mindedness.. we are an industrial country, what do they expect? bondi beach in whitley bay?

i also can't gripe at fuel tax - car growth needs to slow, if pricing people out their cars is the way the government choose to do then so be it, its pure ignorance to think that we can continue as we are...

I'm quite happy living in this country.

At the end of the day everywhere has their problems so if it's not one thing it's the other:p

Well i agree with what youve said (apart from the utter crap bit ;) ) ..... but i guess we always want a bit of what we dont have.

Having said that - what i dont agree with is government policy and action which isnt backed up with reasoning. If the government wanted to get us off the roads and into public transport - then it needs to come out and say it, rather than trying to say the right things to everyone in order to secure votes.

We have things like security and protection rammed in our faces when the reasons for our lack of both are not from our own actions but of those acting on our behalf, but not from our own collective will. Theres alot of pies we have our fingers in that i'd like to bet given half the chance most people would say they would rather we werent involved with.

Granted there are real issues that need action on, like certain wars and crisis - buts that what we have a united nations for. Its an insult for nations like the USA and the UK to create organisations like this just to ignore when it comes to doing what we really want to do.

One thing i dont agree with is how much harder people have to work these days to basically have what we had for working half as hard only 10 years ago. its just my opinions on the economy again but there is NO reason why a family should have to send two people out to work these days to live in an average house and have an average life, when there was a time when that wasnt needed.

We might have it good in the grand scheme of things, but when your a generation on a personal downward trend its not so pretty.

I think alot of our younger generation are thinking the same things these days. You spend your entire life getting an education and doing the right thing just to find out your working harder than ever for less and less.

    Just my opinion.
