na, hated it last year, for months all u could get anywhere was prog, and 5 or 6 hours of solid prog is pants I reckon.

Now everyone's dropping it and back to hard house n trance sets, thats the bollox!

well, myself i prefer the groovy kind of lurve that is funky unknown house like upstairs, at promise it is more commercial and deep, at shindig its more funk and a bit of cheeze!loopy x

Obviously everyone has there own opinion and different things will 'do it' for different people. I much prefer progressive because I think its that little bit more clever and thoughtful, where careful planning will go into the mixes and not just getting as many big tunes into a set no matter what.

I've noticed loads of sets at promise where there was very little mixing involved. Once I remember watching Guy Ornadel from upstairs for about 45 minutes and every tune he mixed in was just lashed in in the last few bars. I'm not knocking him, but I prefer hearing seamless mixing with a plan behind it all.

Thats why I prefer progressive, I want more than a drum roll, fast beats and 'hands in the air breakdowns'.

I can understand where ur coming from G.H but to be honest if I wnated to be woo'ed by technicality I'd go to the DMC's and shit... as hip hop dj's win hands down... but I'm not there to eb educated I'm out for a good time and rather than be educated and amazed by technical brilliance I'd much rather have an excellent night dancing to tunes that maybe aren't as well thought out but make you dance.

Take hard house, I know if I go to a good hard house club I wont get bored as there is just sooo much energy... I couldn't sit down and listen to the music all ngiht like I could to progressive it would bore me senseless and hurt my ears... but while I'm on my feet dancing its the bsuiness.

I'm nto saying all proggie dj's are techincal genius who put hours of thought into their sets, nor am I saying all hard house and trance dj's are monkeys... btu I am saying regardless of what they spin, how techincally clever they are, how much thought they put into the set... at the end of the night they should be graded on how well they moved the crowd.

Marty M8 you are bang on with this statement!

I have to say though that Progressive house is the type of music that needs to grow on you. But once it does you're hooked. When I first started listening to progressive house I couldn't stand it!!!!!! However, in the last 6 months the majority of vinyl I've bought has been of the progressive persuasion, and I'm quite happy to carry on along those lines.
