    5) While we?re on the topic, what else specifically about modern dance music drives you bonkers?

"I played at Slinky the other day with Tiesto. It was a Friday night and on the Saturday - at the same venue - they had Eric Morillo playing. When I heard what he had demanded on his ?rider? I felt positively ill. Just loads of utterly excessive and totally unnecessary stuff to show what a big superstar he is. Stuff like that really gets under my skin. You?re not Axel Rose mate, you?re a bloke who puts records on record players for a living ? get a grip. "

    LMFAO:lol: - luv it!

This is also a fucking crease.. "A day in the life of John Askew" By John Askew...

"I woke up late this morning. My missus left for work a few hours ago. It was raining outside so I decided to spend the first few hours of consciousness contemplating the day ahead from the safe confines of my bed. It was scheduled to be a busy one but for some reason I found myself unable to answer any of the calls that persisted on rudely interrupting my slumber. I did eventually manage to reach for the remote and turn on the television. I watched Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin track down a spitting Cobra and then embark on a mission of making the creature as angry as possible by taunting it for the benefit of the camera. Excellent viewing but my God I hope he gets bitten one of these days. Cocky bastard. Eventually I got up showered and went to the gym for a pathetic attempt at a workout. On my way home I drove via the UPS depot in Theale to pick up some new bits of studio stuff from Apple. The latest version of Logic was amongst the treats and I had every intention of getting on with installing it and continuing with one of the impending studio jobs which needed attention on my return. However as I walked through my front room to my studio the James Bond DVD box set which I picked up in China over NYE was sitting on the side exposing itself to me as I attempted to pass. So I sat down with a spliff and a cup of tea and got stuck in to Live & Let Die. I?d forgotten how bloody funny the character Sheriff JW Pepper was. It reminded me that he also makes an appearance in The Man with the Golden Gun so I put that at the top of the ?to watch? pile for later viewing.

Eventually, after cleaning up a few dog shits in the garden that my hounds had kindly deposited earlier that morning I got in the studio. Instead of doing any proper work straight away I listened to Metallica?s Black Album and read an extensive article in an old Sunday colour supplement about The Ice Hotel in Sweden. Fuck me James Hetfield can play guitar. After this I decided to saw up the Christmas tree that had been removed from the house in early January, but hadn?t got further than the back yard ? since, despite disputes from the missus, I insisted on keeping it for our outside wood stove. The postman came with a load of CDs, vinyl and a wonderful array of bills. Great.
I avoided the studio once again and went to the office to check my emails. A veritable feast of bad news and bullshit awaited me as usual, however my new heroes Stoneface & Terminal had mailed over the master of their remix of Evaporate ? Thomas Datt?s new single on Discover. As expected it was awesome and I burnt it to CD, took it to the studio along with the rest of the new music that had just arrived - courtesy of Nigel the postman ? and decided to have a mix for a few hours on the decks. Stoneface & Terminal are the guests on my radio show this evening.
At 6pm my girlfriend returned from work and we had dinner together while watching celebrity big brother. That bird that shagged Sven Goran Eriksson really gets on my tits. How dare she say that the British Public would never allow a Black or Asian person win Big Brother. I hope she gets kicked out for saying that. What the fuck Sven was playing at I?ll never understand. He probably regrets it himself. Why in Gods name am I watching this shit. I suggest The Man with The Golden Gun, but I?m overruled with a single look and so on we go with Barrymore?s cringworthy attempt at winning back the public. I wonder what kind of offspring scouse transvestite Pete would produce if he hooked up with Lilly Savage?
At 8pm I leave to go to Kiss in London to do my radio show. This week?s show is rather special as it is my last show on the station. There is a new boss there and he has decided that Kiss 100 needs even more Hip Hop and Rn?B programming, so along with another 5 or 6 specialist shows on the station mine has been brought to an end. It seems a big shame that Kiss is being engulfed so dramatically by ?Pimp my Ride syndrome? ? especially considering its history as an internationally recognised leader and innovator in electronic music.
I get to Kiss at 9 and spend a few hours answering emails and listening to new music I have been sent.
The show starts at 11 and the next 2 hours are as fun as ever. Stoneface & Terminal?s mix is amazing.
I listen to Mary-Anne Hobb?s fantastic show ?The BreezeBlock? on the way home. As usual there is a veritable feast of mental drum n bass and strange electronic beats. I pull into my drive at around 2am, go straight to the studio. I seem to get far more done during the night ? when everyone else is asleep. Armed with an enormous bucket of tea I get stuck into the remix I am working on for Afterglow Records in Germany. It?s Sean Tyas?s new single Mirella. I want the mix to be really solid as Tyas is one of my new heros.
At 5am I get to bed. Shattered and horribly stoned. "

He is my fucking hero. I also remember his last show on Kiss, it was a belter, the first I'd heard S&T's mix of Evaporate as well.

Strangely enough afterwards I listened to the Breezeblock (insert x-files music) - it was a special on dubstep.

I love the way askew goes off on tangents, commenting on everything from James Hetfield's guiatr playing to Sven  :king:

    2) What is a normal evening at work like for you?

In the UK ? it?s normally hours in the car listening to bizarre regional radio. Check into hotel. Eat dinner and get pissed. Go to club. Abuse, punish and violate the sound system till it yields. Fall over.

Aye hes fucking quality i think. Hes a wicked DJ but his attitude on everything is fucking spot on, totally down to earth and not a hint of an ego about him at all.

His radio shows on kiss were quality, used to d/l them every week, his VONYC shows are harder to get now though.

Remember the first Kiss show i ever heard, he had someone on doing a guest mix and they finished with 30 mins to go. Askew came back on

"Right.... there is half an hour left. Erm................. (long silence)................ i think ill have a mix, i might play some techno"

And went straight into a banging techno mix. Total quality :king:

Hi John. Thanks for agreeing to meet with us. For that don?t know you can you tell us a bit about yourself?

At the moment im recovering from a week of flu, and for the last 2 days I have had a 70% loss of hearing in one of my ears, which has probably been the scariest thing that has happened to me in my enter life. Luckily, with some particularly potent antibiotics, which I started this morning, it?s already coming back. That?s not quite the answer you were after is it?
