Thats like saying the miners who lost their jobs during Tory reign were responsible for losing their jobs because they elected the government in the first place. I don't think you understand the noun "responsible"

I'm interested in this question though. Who IS responsible for the actions of a democratically elected government.
Is it all of us collectively since we agree with the system that brings it to power?
Is it only for those who voted for it ( a minority in most elections)
Is it only the MPs who vote on our behalf?
Is it only the members of the government itself?
Or is it just the leader?
    Or is nobody responsible?
Or is it all the fault of Gary Proud?

As tempted as I am to say its Gary Proud, surely it must be the members of the government. How often have people voted for a party only to find out they do something completely different? Is that the voters fault?

The foreign policy of this country is decided upon by the Government and the Government alone, in the same way that they decide upon economic policy, education, and every other thing that they are responsible for as a government elect.

Yes we do elect them through a voting system, though it isnt like we elect a Government and they then ask us to vote again on whether to go to war or not, that call was made by the government of the time and them alone.

I dare say that had the people of Britain been given a choice we would have never got involved, and there has been years of protests about the matter ever since, so how can this ever be the fault of the British public?

As has been said already (and illustrated perfectly by the joke that is the Liberal Democrat party over recent months) what is said before an election and what happens after it are 2 completely different things.

Otherwise by the same token - would you blame the students who voted for Lib Dem after being sold on their manifesto for the party subsequently joining the coalition and hiking up university fees to upto £9,000 a year?

oh god I can't keep going on with this. I don't feel the shit they do is my fault even though it is in theory. But it has made me a target of those who were fucked over by my government and that's a fact. Despite all the hatred and bile the islamists spout i can't help feeling that we brought it on ourselves by constantly fucking up the middle east. I can understand where the poppy burners and even hamza are coming from, that's why i can't hate them. I just think if there was a bit more understanding and empathy from all sides we could row back from all the violence, even at this late stage. I suppose that makes me a tree hugging, sandal wearing, bearded, guardian reading, pinko, commie batty boy hippy

they're meant to be responsible for us, because they're our servants (allegedly) and we're responsible for them, because we elected them?
