we all need money......we all need to work......

    work hard play hard

but the thing is, yes probably most of us have a job we want to do, and when we get that job, i bet we all have got up in the morning and thought,,, "ah fuck ive got to go to work"
even though its a job you love doing and want to do.

so doing a crappy job wouldnt really change much would it!!!

    get a job, and live!!!!

Personally I would say stay at Uni and finish your degree unless you are desperately unhappy. It's all very well saying you want to have money etc now, and be able to go out all the time, but is that all you want for the rest of your life? If you graduate you are likely to be able to get a better job in the long run, with more money etc.

In my experience, though it does depend on what sort of thing you want to do, you will get further faster with a degree. I have applied for jobs where they just bin your application form if you haven't got a degree, regardless of the job or what your degree is in.

The real question is, do you want an easier life now or later? If the answer is now, then leave Uni. If it is later then stay. What is a couple of years compared to the rest of your life?

Just my opinion. Ultimately it is up to you and only you can decide. For the record, I stayed and got my degree!

I'm becoming more and more tempted by all this talk of leaving. There's no point staying cos I'm not happy and it means not having to worry about scrimping and saving to get a night out. I might stay in Sunderland but try and get a job in Newcastle. I'm still not certain but thanks for your help, guys.

yeah, suppose helen, it totally depends on what you want out of life............

for the record i have an HND in Graphic Design and dropped out of uni doinga BA Hons in Multimedia Design after the second year, thing is with my type of work its not the qualifications that gets you a job its the PORTFOLIO of design work.

so i was ok to drop out.

shit just thought, its been a year id be graduating now!!!!
ah well, thats life, but ive had the best year and its getting better. Oops i forgot to let uni know i wasnt coming back...

    too late now i think.

Just read that you haven't had a job before. Why not get one in the summer holidays and see what it is like before you decide whether to leave or not? That way you can make a more informed decision. I have been working for 8 years now, and would give anything to go back to being a student. Just the thought of being able to skip lectures on a sunny afternoon and go to the pub!

I say stick with it. The number of times i've wanted to drop out coz i thought i'd have more fun and more money if i wasn't at uni is unbelievable, but i'm well happy that i've decided to stick it through. Not everyone has the opportunity to go to uni - so count yourself lucky i say :) Besides, it also gives my parents a reason to be proud of me - for once!
But obviously you've gotta do what's right for you :)

im kinda in the same boat cept ive almost made up my mind...im deffo not goin back to my course...dont enjoy it at all, missed to many lectures, would be too much to catch up on...so im gunna try and get a job and then try and get on another course through clearing or sumthin or by ringing up and explaining my situation

i had doubts about my course from day 1 but just stuck with it cos i enjoyed uni life and where i was living, but at the end of the day the most important part of uni should be the course u are doing and if u dont like it then u should change it

even if it is the most stressful thing ever!! :( :(

Completely agree with everything you say Sloppy im in similar position, missed loads of lecture, once you do that you lose the continuity of the stuff ur learning, then you think well if i don't follow whats going on in lectures why bother going, i'll just get a book from the library on it LATER. Theres a lot to be said for turning up to lectures coz even if you don't take notes you gain a lot of confidence by just turning up(found this out in retropect) Also if you do a course you enjoy, work isn't a chore anymore and you're more likely to do work outside lectures as your interested in it. Well best of luck to everybody finding hard at uni ur NOT alone, there are so many people who will be struggling but there just not big enough to say anything about it!!!

Student loans arn't really a problem though, their probably the best loans you will ever be offered, plus with a degree u generally start on a higher income anyway. By the time Ive finished uni I'll have approx £30,000 worth of student debt, but my first job is likley to pay in the region of £25 - £30,000. Even low paying graduate jobs can pay a fair amount (£18 - 20,000). I dont think money is the worry.

If your not happy with your course then this is the time to stop and decide what you do want to do, like it was said before, one year is nothing, you dont want to get to finals and suddennly decide you dont want to do it anymore! I say think about what you do want to do, go and see your tutor and reapply for september or next year! Ive been a student for three years and i can still afford to go clubbing etc!

I'm working and doing a degree part time, it is fucking hell but I am going to stick with it because I honestly think it will benefit me in the long run!!!

I know people say you should party when you're young but I intent to be partying well into my 40's so a couple of slow years now won't do much harm!!!
