    cheers technofish.....

al>>does oakey have roots? i saw him on sum prog about the birth of house when he was claiming to hve been in usa in late 70's with his mates clubbin every week......

how old is this guy?? as for 'remembering his roots' and playing in this country... i fink he plays abroad coz he gets taxed less....

and they actually want to hear him over there, everytime he plays over here he gets slagged for playing...or not playing his courtyard classix. whereas oakey on tour cn play whatever he wants, cop off with a random bird etc etc

Fishy boy I aint denying PVD's contribution to trance or how great he "was".... I just personally don't like the direction he's going (whatever that may be) every time I've heard him recently its been a huge anti-climax (gods, crash-she-sha, promise)...

I used to think Michael Jackson was the bollox too, but his latest shit does fuck all for me, this is how I feel about PVD... even you can't deny his new stuff production and dj wise is not in the same league as his older stuff.

DJ's like Eddie Halliwell in my eyes are taking trance to newer levels, I personally preffer hard trance and would much rather dance my tits off too Lab 4 - Candyman over PVD - For an Angel... But then I'm just a young clueless little wanna be... unlike you, you old cultured intelligent innovative original trance daddy

The fact that he "Isnt as good as he used to be" hasnt got fuck all to do with him or his skill......... I has go to do with the fact that TRANCE MUSIC IN GENERAL isnt as good as it used to be!!!

In 1999....... the DJ's where spoilt for choice with GREAT tunes to play. Everyone was making fantastic trance records and lots of em.

Like it or not, Trance has had its day and quality Trance tunes are rare as fuck. Your lucky if you get one real quality trancer a month these day........ Glass Garden, Virtuoso and recently Deep Sea.

The DJ's havent got a lot of choice..............hench the best Trance DJ around (Tie$to) having to play the same tunes for a year & include diffrent styles to their sets.

I am not even going to comment on the Halliwell will be better than PVD cos I cant type for laffin!!!! :D

    aye.
i agree that you cant criticise pvd for his contribution to dance music or production skills, 'out there... ' was a wicked album not just with trance tunes ie. we are alive, columbia ect but some quality chilled breakbeat/trance stuff. i think though paul maybe thinks he needs to progress his sound as music changes, how many djs are playin the same now as they were 5yrs ago??
i also agree though that i wasnt all that impressed thit paul in dec, not that he was poor just cos ive heard him play a lot better ie when trance was at its peak in 98/99 time. id say hes playin more tough prog. trance now which just isnt what people expect from him.

    does that make any sense??

    Perfect sense m8.

Twas the first time i saw The Van Dinkle meister and from what i cud see he lived up to the hype surrounding him.

Obviously people have seen him more times and are in a better position to criticise but come on, it wud be wicked for him to come back to PRomise cos he is GOD..........in my view.

Anyway enough of my PR work for him....any more commitments about him....

WHATS THE BEST SET PPL HAVE SEEN HIM DO BY THE WAY??????

*p.s my oponion doesnt really count for much cos im just an iccle amateur clubber btw* :p

did u see the reaction eddie got from the crowd on friday? never ever, seen a crowd go that mental to PVD and ive seen him six times

The elegant upper class of Clubber that follow Paul Van Dyk are far more likely to give a polite round of applause to show their appreciation of their DJ.

The Hard House rejects that follow Scalliwell are more likely to jump around making monkey noise's and stamping their feet...........

To the untrained eye, this could give the illusion of a greater reception.

i thought that halliwell had gone way downhill from seeing him at crasher and ss cos he played really hard noises that wernt that entertaining...

But then a couple of weeks ago after beginning with the noises he went classy trancy(playing fiji and skydive and that!), but at promise he was amazing and i dont think anyone who was there would disagree!!

although at crasher the next night he did go back to the noises a bit too much!!but i still think he's class!!

the sound of trance has evolved since 98/99, like all musical styles its lifecycle is coming to and end, and in its place you are seeing hard trance.
i don't honestly think trance is being produced poorly these days though, just in much lesser quantities & differently. As the producers who once were producing that sound are concentrating on producing harder stuff, and there is some very good hard trance tracks being produced.
And it seems to be what the majority of people i talk to want to listen to these days... i know some people disagree but eddie halliwell is a success, he is playing hard trance & filling clubs.

i know i've rambled a bit here, but hope the point comes across. that trance sound is in the past... maybe they'll be playing it @ Retro nights in a few years time and we can all re-live how good it was :D

P.S. PVD = Legend in his own lifetime
